KS3 Music

At KS3 students study a range of musical genres, play a variety of instruments, and compose their own original pieces of music. Students work independently, in pairs and in small groups.

Qualification:  BTEC Tech – Music Practice

The Music specification followed at AGS is BTEC Tech – Music Practice (a link can be found below). It provides students with opportunities to explore different genres, develop skills on their own instruments and create music using industry standard music technology.

The course is examined through 3 separate coursework units:

  • Component 1:  Exploring Music Products and Styles (30%)
  • Component 2:  Music Skills Development (30%)
  • Component 3:  Responding to a Music Brief (40%)

  • Analysing a range of musical genres
  • Developing instrumental skills across a range of genres
  • Composing and using music technology to recreate a range of genres

Component 2:  Music Skills Development 

  • Developing practical instrumental skills
  • Developing practice routines, planning and self reflection
  • Developing professional skills for industry

Component 3:  Responding to a Music Brief

  • Developing a more detailed understand of how music is created
  • Recreating music in different styles
  • Advanced music technology techniques
