At Ash Green School we offer a curriculum that is divided into three key stages. The curriculum is delivered through 25 hours of taught lessons per week and we operate a two week timetable. The curriculum is divided into six learning teams and these are:
- Social Studies
- Creative Arts
- Physical Education
Students also follow a programme of spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through Religious Studies and Personal Social Education (PSE).
Key stage 3
Our KS3 curriculum is made up of an accelerated two year programme of study, which is designed to prepare students for KS4. The KS3 curriculum is designed to give students a broad and balanced education, whilst focusing on the core subjects of English, maths and science. All students study Religious Education and have two hours of high quality Physical Education per week.
In Years 7 and 8, a small group of students have one teacher for the majority of their subjects serving as a transition from Primary to Secondary school.
Key stage 4
Our KS4 programme is designed to give students the best opportunity to achieve and make progress. Students start KS4 in Year 9 and we operate a clear system of guided pathways with regard to option subjects. Students are carefully guided in Year 8 into suitable academic pathways that will allow them to succeed and make real progress. These pathways take account of new government measures and expect students to study either history or geography and / or modern languages. Our pathways are designed to show flexibility so that students can also select GCSE and or vocational courses.
Our pathways are reviewed yearly in line with national expectations and we anticipate that most students will study a modern language in KS4 in the near future.
We have weighted the curriculum so that the core areas of English, Maths and Science are taught to all students almost every day. All students study Religious Education and have two hours of high quality Physical Education per week.
Key stage 5
Our KS5 programme is designed to offer students a real choice of academic subjects, whilst also including vocational routes for some students. The majority of our courses on offer are traditional A-Level subjects and students can select three A-Levels or A-Levels with a vocational course.
We believe in offering a wide range of extracurricular activities to stretch and challenge our students.
Ash Green School regularly has teams competing in both local and national competitions in such sports as: football, netball, rugby, cricket, athletics and tennis.
We offer students the chance to take part in a range of Drama activities. There are performances throughout the year as well as after school activities and theatre trips.
We offer free instrumental and music theory tuition to all our students. Any student interested should come and see Mrs Gibbs regarding these lessons and the choice of instruments that are available.
Wider Challenge AGS students have the opportunity to be stretched through other activities such as residential visits, Young Enterprise and the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
